Volunteer Cove Marina

Lake Loudon, Tennessee

Description

Fort Loudoun Lake, often called Lake Loudon, is a long, scenic reservoir in East Tennessee formed along the Tennessee River. Stretching more than 50 miles from Knoxville toward Watts Bar Lake, it blends wooded coves, open water, waterfront communities, and great fishing. The lake is popular for cruising, fishing, watersports, and sailing, with abundant bass, crappie, and catfish and frequent wildlife sightings. A standout feature is its direct connection to downtown Knoxville, including the area near Neyland Stadium, where boats gather on football game days. Overall, Lake Loudon offers a rare mix of peaceful natural scenery and lively waterfront culture, making it one of East Tennessee’s most versatile boating destinations. One of the rare things about Fort Loudoun Lake is that you can boat right up to the Knoxville city area, including Volunteer Landing, restaurants, and the downtown waterfront — no need to leave the water to enjoy city nightlife or dining.

“Vol Navy” — College Football from Your Boat

A very unique tradition here is the “Volunteer Navy” — on University of Tennessee Vols football home game days, hundreds of boats gather on the lake near Neyland Stadium so fans can tailgate and watch the game from the water.
